Handmade Sterling Silver Necklaces
Every necklace here is made by hand, one at a time, in my Kansas City studio. The forms are architectural (clean geometry, considered proportion, nothing decorative for its own sake), and the finishes are where the warmth comes from: brushed sterling silver that holds a soft matte light, oxidized sterling that reads almost charcoal, and gold accents used only where a detail earns them.
These are pieces made to be worn constantly rather than saved for occasions. They layer, they sit well with a plain white shirt, and they age into something more characterful rather than something tired. Chains and pendants with a graphic point of view
Most silver chain is uniform rope: it disappears on the neck and does its job quietly. The chains in this collection are drawn as individual links (raindrops, flat paperclip ovals, forms you can read at arm's length), so a necklace reads as a piece of design rather than a length of metal. That is what lets one chain carry an outfit on its own, and what lets two chains sit together without blurring into one.
The materials are simple on purpose. Sterling silver, finished brushed or oxidized. Gold accents where a single warm note is wanted. Freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones as texture and contrast rather than as centerpieces. I choose stones for how they behave against silver, not for their name, and I finish every piece by hand, which means small variations between two of the same design. Those variations are the mark of the hand that made it, not a flaw.

Three ways into the collection
Each necklace belongs to one of three ideas. Knowing which one you are drawn to makes the choice easy.
Chains built for layering
The Raindrop Chain and the Simple Paperclip Chain are designed to stack. Raindrop links catch light along their curve; paperclip links sit flat and elongate the neckline. Both come in 18 and 20 inches and in brushed or oxidized finishes: two lengths, two finishes, and a stack that never looks accidental. Architectural statement pieces
Paperclip Necklace No. 1 is the fullest expression of the studio's geometry: an oversized, graphic link form that works as the single piece in an outfit. An architectural statement necklace like this one is meant to carry a look on its own. A crew neck or an open collar, nothing else needed.
Pearls and semi-precious stones
Pearls appear throughout my work as texture rather than tradition. Set against oxidized sterling, a pearl stops reading as formal and starts reading as contrast: matte dark metal against something luminous. Pearl and stone designs are made in small runs and rotate through the collection; if you are after a particular stone or a custom length, contact the studio, and most designs can be adapted.
How to choose a necklace from this collection
STEP 1
Decide whether it works alone or in a stack. A statement piece like Paperclip Necklace No. 1 is the whole story; a chain is a building block. If you want one necklace to reach for every day, start with a chain in 18 inches. If you want one piece that ends the conversation, start with the statement form.
STEP 2
Pick the finish for the way you dress. Brushed sterling is soft and matte, and disappears politely into a wardrobe of neutrals. Oxidized sterling reads nearly charcoal, and gives a plain outfit an edge. If you are choosing your second necklace, take the other finish. The contrast is what makes a pair look composed.
STEP 3
Choose the length from the neckline, not the number. An 18-inch chain sits at the collarbone and suits crew necks and higher collars. A 20-inch chain sits just below and suits open collars and V-necks. For a stack, take one of each. Two inches of separation is the minimum that keeps two chains legible as two chains.

What are the necklaces made from?

What lengths are available?
Chains are offered in 18 and 20 inches. The 18-inch length sits at the collarbone; the 20-inch length sits just below it. For a custom length, contact the studio before ordering; most designs can be adjusted, and the two standard lengths are chosen so that one of each makes a clean two-chain stack.
How do I care for oxidized sterling silver?
Oxidized silver is a surface finish, so keep it away from polishing cloths and silver dips, which will strip the darkening. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing and store it away from humidity, ideally in the pouch it arrived in. The finish will soften a little with wear, which is normal and part of how the piece ages.

Are the pieces one of a kind?
Designs are made in small runs, and several pieces are one of a kind. Because each necklace is finished by hand, no two are exactly identical even within a design. The link spacing, the depth of the oxidized finish, and the brush pattern all carry the mark of the maker.
Can I buy a handmade necklace in person in Kansas City?
Yes, by arrangement. The studio is in Loch Lloyd, on the south side of the Kansas City metro. Contact the studio with the pieces you are interested in and I will set up a time. Most customers, including local ones, order online and have the piece shipped or held for pickup.
